House Concerts
House concerts are handled a bit differently than normal concerts, so please read on.
Advanced ticketing is processed through Brown Paper Tickets with the fee/donation of $10 per person going to the artist. Alternative ticketing can be processed more informally at the door/event or even as a “pass the hat” donation. I ask for a minimum commitment of $200 from the host. In the event that fees/donations from attendees do not cover that minimum amount, I ask the host to cover the difference.
Requirements:
-
I ask that the host provides a piano in good condition, tuned up just prior (within a week) to the concert. The piano doesn't have to be a grand piano, just a piano that plays well, with working keys and pedals. Even a small upright is fine. In addition, if the host does not have a piano, I have my own that may be used.
-
I would ask that you to help promote the show to your friends, family, and acquaintances, and that you commit to doing your best to bring at least 30 people into your home. I can provide some sample materials for promotional efforts.
-
Please watch the videos below to get a good sense of how to create your own successful house concert experience.
Typically, house concerts are performed in an intimate living room setting where you will be able to soak in every nuance and share this meaningful evening with neighbors, friends and family.
What to expect at a house concert:
- Indoors or Outdoors? While most house concerts are indoors, some house concerts can be setup outdoors (weather permitting or in a weather-proof outdoor tent).
- Attire is generally up to the individual. Keep in mind that many people may dress more casually for a house concert although we highly encourage you to wear something comfortable that makes sense for you.
- Food and beverages may be provided by the host of the house concert. If you are unsure, it is always a good idea to call ahead to confirm or inquire as to whether or not you can bring your own or bring enough to share.
- During the concert: Most solo piano theater-style concerts discourage attendees from making too much noise. I actually encourage you to get involved and have fun. So, don't be afraid to give a 'shout out' or clap when you feel the desire come over you.
- Photographs and videos: I encourage you to take photographs and video tape the program. In addition, I would love to take a photograph with you after the event and ask that you email me the photos or post them online (and send me a link). I might even ask you to provide me with a video testimonial if you are up for it.
